This is a must see if you are anywhere near Franklin, Tn. This is a beautifully restored plantation and grounds, with excellent tour guides. If you want to see how it was to live on a plantation 150 years ago, this is a must see.
I love touring old homes and learning about history so the Carnton was my muse for the day. The current people over this house are very respectable for saving this home and giving a voice to all those that have a story that should be told. This is a great place to take the family or go by yourself and enjoy the home and stories.
I took my 4 year old on this thinking I'd immediately regret it, but despite having to stand still for 60 minutes as we walked through 5-10 rooms of the house, the tour guide held his attention with some of the best storytelling I've ever heard on a tour. I'll definitely go back.
Good experience, but quite expensive ($18 per person), so I wouldn't recommend for large families. Also no photography allowed inside, and we weren't allowed in the attic. Good museum though, especially since most of the furnishings are original to the family.

Our group of 14 had a great time visting the Carnton Plantation. Our tour guide, Will, was incredibly knowledgeable about the house, grounds, and history surrounding this plantation. He also helped us plan an extra hour of time we had between the plantation and lunch in Nashville. Very well done!!
