Word to the wise...
At this point, and as a long term customer of The Hartford Insurance Co., I cannot recommend being insured with The Hartford. If anything, I'd have to STRONGLY recommend not going with them in regards to any of your insurance needs.
I got a letter from The Hartford, our business insurance provider of 14 years,stating they were not renewing my 14 year old policy when it ends... I called them this morning and they informed me that they supposedly seen a Facebook business page that they assumed was mine, that had pics of what they claim were "commercial aquariums" on there presumably installed by our company, and so they had to assume that our company, "Aquatect Aquarium Experts", installed the tanks (We own an aquarium maintenance/install company). The Hartford told me that I'd have to get a "certificate of insurance" from the company that installed any tanks that we currently clean (some of these companies aren't even in biz anymore), and that I must send it to The Hartford as proof, even though we've our policy has never changed since it was originally set up for our company back in 2003. Their reason for none-renewal for our policy is "your operations no longer meet The Hartford's Small Commercial business segment's underwriting guidelines because of exposures from the installation of commercial aquariums" (as if this makes any sense at all). We were told this was based on either a website or Facebook business page that someone with The Hartford came across. I tried to tell them that we don't have a website, or a said Facebook page for our business and that is when I was told that we'd have to send in "certificates of insurance" from every aquarium installer that installed all of the aquariums that we maintain or have maintained over the entire 14 years we've been in business.
I've been paying them for 14 years now with no claim with our maintenance company ever, or a lapse in insurance coverage. They audited us several months ago, then automatically drafted over $500 out of our account one month, unauthorized, causing us to bounce several checks (our monthly payment was normally $60ish). Told us that "it was due to my wife being part of the business, because she was the one that filled out the audit info, even though I'm the sole owner, and so they were trying to charge more for "workers comp". And not only that, they were trying to backcharge all the way back to the beginning of the policy renewal of 2015's date (even though no claims have ever been made, my wife isn't an owner, and this supposed new rule didn't go into effect until January of 2016). I eventually got that thrown out as of about a month ago, and now they did this... No worries... If my policy is not renewed by The Hartford, I will be investigating all of our legal avenues as retribution for not only our company's' reputation, but also for any loss in revenue that this may cause for current and near future contracted work that we have already signed off on.
